Rangers rumors.
November 11, 2003
ESPN insider is reporting a Newsday story that has a 3 way trade of Alex Rodriguez going to Boston, Garciaparra to Anaheim and Eckstein and pitching to Texas. My only observation is that it needs to be a whole bunch of pitching. I don't think that Anaheim has that much pitching. Always remember the Rodriguez no-trade clause. He will most likely invoke it unless he percieves the team he would go to would be a stone cold lock for a championship.
The Dallas Morning News is talking up a rumor that the Rangers would sign J.T. Snow as a free agent. I must point out that if they need an aging 1st baseman with bad knees who would at least play regularly, there is a guy out there. His name is Rafael Palmeiro. Also this grand scheme calls for Mark Teixeira to make his second major positional move before he has started his sophomore season. The Texas OF already has Laynce Nix, Kevin Mench and Ramon Nivar which could probably serve the team very well. If this is a move that eventually comes off, dump those seasons tickets because it will end up being yet another long season.
The Rangers have contacted Roger Clemens' agent. If Roger doesn't retire and the team could sign him to a 1-2 years contract it might be a very good shot in the arm for the team. The caveat being that the team doesn't pay too much money for him and doesn't offer a contract that isn't for longer than 2 years.
FIC Spin: Unless the Rangers can improve the pitching staff, they should not be players in the trade and Free Agent markets.
