Rockies Draft

10 Ian Stewart 3B La Quinta HS
Stewart is a free swinger and is very anxious but he has tremendous power. He is mainly a 3B but can play 1B or the OF. He has signed with USC but there is no word on whether he will stay with the Rockies or go to Southern Cal. He was chosen by the Rockies clearly to help with there problem at 3rd and the front office is hoping he can make a difference at that position in 4-5 years.

47 Scott Beerer RHP Texas A&M
He is a lean kid, but very well built. He has a comfort zone of about 89-91 m.p.h. but can reach up to 94 on occasion. He was the Aggies’ closer for two years, but the Rockies want him to try to convert to being a setup man. He is finished with eligibility so he is sure to make a roster but there is no word on what level.

77 Aaron Mardsen LHP University of Nebraska
Aaron is big and muscular but is not overpowering. He has good control and is said to have a veteran’s mentality out on the mound. He knows how to win and was one of the leaders for the Cornhuskers. He is projected to be in AA hopefully by the start of next season.

107 Richard Guarno C University of Arkansas
Guarno is a relatively unknown kid who is pretty small but has an accurate arm. He is definitely a defensive specialist. He will battle for the single A catching spot.
137 Chris Colonel 3B Texas Tech
Chris can play every position on the diamond. He is tall with a lean build, but has some power. He can hit to all fields and has a very accurate arm whether he is throwing from the outfield or third. He is a tough kid and will probably end up in AA by the beginning of next year.

167 Randy Blood
197 Lawrence Robles
227 Darric Merrell
257 Henry Reynolds
287 Marc Kaiser
317 John Restrepo
377 Joseph Gaetti
407 Jon Paul Gagne
437 Mark Ion
467 Michael Wiley
497 James Brauer
527 Friedel Pinkston
557 Ryan Matthews
587 Scott Anderson

Next week’s report (yes it is going to become a weekly thing) will be focused mainly on the return of Juan Uribe, the position problems for the Rockies Uribe causes, and his impact for the rest of the season.

Any questions? Feel free to ask about the draft, Uribe, or anything else involving the Rockies.
