White Sox - 8/26/02
August 26, 2002
BY MARIO SCALISE
LATEST TEAM INFO
RECORD: 61-69
PLACE: 2nd
GAMES BACK: 16
After a few weeks of promise and hope, the Sox went into another drought to put a damper on a realistic chance at a strong finish. The Sox fell into a 6-game losing streak before dropping another series to the Twins. Valentin has hit well since starting at short and being moved to the two hole, while Harris has raised his batting average since being dropped to the nine hole. Buehrle won his 16th game of the season and needs four wins with eight starts remaining.
TRANSACTIONS
The Sox placed backup infielder Tony Graffanino on the 15-day DL and recalled infielder D'Angelo Jimenez.
QUICK VIEW
Who to Watch/Add/Drop
#1 - JOE CREDE- 3B (ADD)
Hit two homers this week in back-to-back to games and will be faced with an easy schedule the remainder of the season. If you're in a deep league and need a third baseman, he's a solid investment for the remaining month.
#2 - MARK BUEHRLE- SP (KEEP)
Not that anybody would trade him unless you are getting a big need in return, but his next few starts are against weak opponents like the Jays, Tigers, Royals, and Indians. If baseball continues, 20 wins looks to be a shoe-in.
ROTATION OUTLOOK
8/26 - J.Parque (1-3, 8.57) 2000 Versus Blue Jays: 0-0, 1.39 (13 IP, 2 STARTS)

9/1 - J.Parque (8-10, 5.74) 2000 Versus Tigers: 2-0, 0.90 (20 IP)
vs. S.Sparks (8-12)
A few safe bets, or would be safe bets, for the Sox rotation this week. Parque
is going twice against two mediocre teams and should be getting better with it being his fourth start since returning. Buehrle is a definite, while Garland and Wright should be used at your own discretion. Wright will be in the spacious Comerica Park and Garland against a below average Blue Jay offense. Glover went 7 strong innings last time out and saw his pitch count hit 109. Very rare that happens twice in a row.
OFENSIVELY SPEAKING
-The Blue Jays is up in the air. With nobody set to play game one, a rookie in game two, and the rarely seen Parris in three, it's play it by ear.
-The Sox will see (in terms of schedule) Jose Lima who was lit up for 11 runs last outing. Lima has been the offical BP pitcher of the AL this year, again. Ordonez, Konerko, Lee and Thomas are hitting over .400 combined against Lima.
-The Sox will also be seeing good ole friend Steve Sparks, who the Sox have met five times already this year. The Sox have beat him two out of the three times, while putting a nice 6.00+ ERA on him. Lee and Thomas have struggled against the knuckle baller while Ordonez is 10-32 off him.
LOCAL PERSPECTIVE
The possible strike has killed any baseball talk around the area concerning the Sox play or future. Fans are just waiting and wondering on what will happen come August 30th. On a side note, Frank Thomas continues to hear the boos, outside of when he hits a home run, while many are extremely concerned over the 2003 rotation beyond Mark Buehrle.
