Who's Better?
DFS Leagues
On any given day, both Harper and Alonso give you a good chance of scoring a bunch of DFS points. Alonso smacks more HRs overall but Harper gets more extra base hits. Like most things daily, a lot of it comes down to the pitcher matchup. Everything else being equal (ballpark, weather, hot/cold streaks, etc), go with the better matchup.
Roto Leagues
Both these guys hit for a ton of power but it's no secret Harper is a better hitter overall. More plate discipline (walks) and thus better OBP and OPS. Alonso's free swingin' approach usually results in a middling batting average (or worse). So, if you're hungry for homers and have the other cats covered, consider Alonso. Otherwise, Harper s a better hitter overall and seems to be improving by the year. Toss in the fact that Harper is capable of 10+ SBs per year (and Alonso is a polar bear on the bases), there's good reason why Harper is usually drafted a couple rounds earlier.
